To Know Him is to Love Him
Jesus is so good, so faithful, so caring. The Bible says that
Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. But how often do you hear people blaming
God for the bad things that happen? Quite often, unfortunantly, and I'm not sure
if they are not thinking it through or perhaps they do not truly know Jesus. The
reason bad things happen to all of us, Christians included, is because we live
in a world that is not perfect. There is sin, and where there is sin, there is
sickness and disease and death. There is also stealing, killing, hatred,
lust and the list goes on. But Jesus has made a way for us to be victorious in
this life. No matter what faces us, Jesus can and does give us the strength and
the peace and endurance to hold on and trust Him no matter what.
With
Jesus we can live a wonderful overcoming life.
Jesus says if we will
call on Him, He will hear and forgive our sins if we ask Him. Jesus
has already taken our sins upon His body and died for us. It is His gift to us
if we will just accept this gift. We need to be truly sorry for our sins and
turn away from our sinful life and follow Jesus.
The way to have an
overcoming life is to know Jesus, not just to know about Him, but to truly know
Him.
Consider how we get to know our spouses, friends, or our
co-workers. It is because we spend time with them, talking to them and listening
to them. This is how we get to know Jesus.
We read His
Word; when we read the Bible we are learning who Jesus is, what He
desires for us and how He wants us to live. We learn about people who
really messed up and God still answered them when they cried out to Him. Or
people who were in great need and the Lord answered them; real people just
like you and me. God's Word is an encouragement
to us because we see the faithfulness of God.
Then
we talk to Jesus, another word is 'pray'. But someone may think 'I
can't pray' so I would rather say talk. We take time to tell Jesus what is
on our heart, what we are thinking, what we are feeling. This is our time to
tell Jesus how sorry we are that we blew it or thank the Lord for what He has
done for us that day. Hopefully we also use this time to tell Jesus that we
desire more of His presence also.
Our prayer and worship
time should not just be a few minutes here and there, but a
time set aside to get into the presence of Jesus; to sit at His feet
and hear Him speak to us. It is a time to love Him, desire Him
and come into His presence and be close to Him.
Sometimes a song will say
what is in my heart and I sing it to Him. So feel free to sing a
worship song that expresses what is in your heart and sing to Jesus. It is an
awesome experience when you begin to feel your love for Jesus just getting
stronger within you and then overflows out of you through worship and prayer and
adoration. And then experience an unexplainable feeling of having
Jesus' presence surround you as you bask in His love for you.
"Just
a closer walk with Thee, grant it Jesus hear my plea, daily walking close to
Thee, let it be dear Lord, let it be."
"I worship You Almighty God, there
is none like You. I worship You oh Prince of Peace, that is what I want to do. I
give you praise for you are my righteousness. I worship You, Almighty God, there
is none like You."
It is Jesus' great desire to be close to
us.
