Poor and Broke

"Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."

These words of Jesus speak not of man's material depleted condition, rather his spiritual depleted condition. What man is spiritually rich outside of Christ? None; no not one.

All are spiritually poor, yet who of the poor admits such condition? Those who do realize their state of poverty and are blessed as they come broken before God; not because they are needy for material goods, but for spiritual life! They see themselves totally wretched before the Holy One, and in their poverty cry out for mercy. With tears they become blessed and favored of God.

Laying aside Heavenly garments of Glory, the Son of God arrayed himself in a robe of flesh and became the Son of Man. He became poor that we might become rich!

Pride and arrogance keep many from admitting their true spiritual state. However, a breaking of the heart through confession to God brings Heavenly wealth.

Heaven's High Host searches for the poor and contrite. Among the broken one, the Eternal One encamps and surrounds with His Glory.

"For thus says the high and lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.'" (Isaiah 57:15)

God, am I broken before You, broken through and through?

Or am I yet cold like steel? Have I allowed Your wheel

Of potter clay to turn; Your fiery oven to burn?

God I really need to be broken! In Your Word, You've spoken

About vessels made for good. And I know that I should

Give all I am to your pottery. So please Lord God, take all of me.

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and there is none who calls upon Your name, who stirs up himself to take hold of You; but now, O Lord, You are our Potter and we are the clay." (Isaiah 64:6-8)
