Bored with Church? "Don't Give Up!"
"And let us not be weary in well doing..." Galatians
6:9
In other words, "don't throw in the towel,
don't give up". Many
times
Christians walk briskly with
Jesus only to find
themselves
becoming
spiritually
worn
out every now and then - if not
often. They become
weary.
Webster's dictionary
defines 'weary' as
tired, worn-out,
without
further zeal and bored.
Sound
familiar?
"Without
further zeal." The
excitement
has
left and sincere
believers find themselves
struggling
just to
hold on. Spiritual vision
has become
clouded. That which
brought joy to
hungry
hearts is now a
drudgery.
Prayer,
worship and the
Bible
becomes boring. Most do
not like to
admit this. So they
pretend, and in
the
meantime spiritual
lives dry
up.
Hopefully,
realization
sets in and the weary
believer admits the
truth, "I'm
bored with prayer, worship and Bible study...
in fact, I'm
bored
with Jesus."
(ouch!)
Acknowledgement
must be made
to be
delivered from
their
dilemma.
"Lord
Jesus, I'm
spiritually tired,
worn-out and
bored. Help me
Jesus!"
God
delivered
Israel from Egyptian bondage
and
there was not one
feeble person
among them. No one was
tired,
worn-out or bored. Slavery
was
behind and God was
leading
forward. Yet, in a short
period of
time feebleness
set in
and
the
enemy attacked.
"Remember what
Amalek
did unto you
when you came out of
Egypt: He smote
all of you that were
feeble when you
were faint and
weary." Duet
25:
17-18a
Why had they
become weary?
Why were those blessed
people ready
to give
up? The reason
was
there was no water to drink. A
lack
of
water makes one
weary.
Exodus 17
tells the
story.
Israel was in the
desert and
they
were thirsty. Instead of
looking to the
Lord, they looked at
the situation.
Had not
God done great
and
mighty things just days before?
Yes,
but Israel was thirsty and angry. Their
vision clouded;
they forgot God was
in love with them.
In spite of angry
complaints God
miraculously brought
forth water from the
rock, but
the
damage had been done. A weary
attitude
sparked spiritual
weakness; the
result was
feebleness.
Christians must keep their eyes on
Jesus, the true
Rock of salvation.
From Him flows living
water. This
water
removes weariness and
gives
spiritual life! Boredom is
relieved.
This water is the
Holy Spirit. He
gives strength
and
zeal to the
thirsty soul.
"If any man thirst,
let
him come
unto me and drink. He
that believes
on me, as the
scripture has
said, 'Out of his
inner-most
being
shall flow reviers of living
water?'" Jesus
from John
7
It is up to us to each
Christian to
admit the lack of
zeal and boredom
brought on by
spiritual weariness. The solution is also
their responsibility. Christians must
go to the fountain
and
drink.
